The Flute is a youth exchange project that offers online travel to Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and Ethiopia. The project is supported by the European Union’s Erasmus Plus program and managed by MMCC in partnership with two German organizations Dignity for Children, and dieKunstBauStelle, plus MMCC-Netherlands. The project provides European youth with opportunities to learn and connect with the Global South through virtual backpacking experiences. It aims to develop a network of resilient young people who can connect digitally for productive humanitarian interaction.

kick-off of the international cultural project "The Flute" in Landsberg am Lech. Participants from 10 nations, representing 10 languages, unite with one goal in mind! Engage in a week of intensive learning, brainstorming, and collaboration, aimed at finding common ground and connecting youth across continents.

COUNTRY PRESENTATIONS WEBINAR
In the first webinar, participants were introduced to the captivating destinations of Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and Ethiopia, where the exciting remote 'backpacking' experiences await. This unique opportunity provided a deeper and different experience of these countries, presented by their own vibrant youth. After the insightful presentations, participants eagerly selected and joined their respective focus group countries.

Tea & Coffee Webinar
Tea and coffee culture hold great importance in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Syria, and Yemen. In Afghanistan, tea ("chai") is a vital part of daily life, fostering conversations and creating a sense of togetherness. Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, boasts a rich coffee culture with its traditional coffee ceremony symbolizing unity and community. In Syria, tea ("shai") serves as a gesture of hospitality, bringing people together. Yemen, known for its Mocha coffee, cherishes a longstanding coffee culture, where coffeehouses are lively spaces for storytelling and connection. In this webinar, we had the incredible opportunity to experience it all from a fresh perspective, presented firsthand by the youth on the ground.

Art webinar
The youth from Afghanistan, Yemen, Ethiopia, and Syria enlightened us about the diverse expressions of art, both in everyday life and within museums. They passionately showcased how art in its various forms serves different functions and impacts the lives of ordinary people. This eye-opening experience allowed us to witness the profound influence of art, ranging from high romantic literature to the vibrant world of graffiti. Guided by these local youth, we gained a deeper understanding of the transformative power of art in shaping daily existence.

peace webinar
This webinar provided a thought-provoking realization about our often taken-for-granted understanding of peace in the Western world. The youth from our partner countries shared their invaluable perspectives on peace, enlightening us on how they perceive, seek, and actively work towards it. Another eye-opening experience was witnessing the preparations for the webinar, including a workshop where hundreds of children in Afghanistan passionately painted their visions of peace.
